CHINATOWN → EAST VILLAGE

Thursday, August 27, 2026

11:14 PM–5:06 AM

11:14 PM

Canal. Rain starting. Nobody has an umbrella, on principle.

Canal Street, 11:14 PM

11:40 PM

A stranger stopped us on Eldridge and asked to be photographed. Didn't give a name. Said, "I'll know it's me."

12:50 AM

The back room. You have to know which door. We knew which door.

The back room, red bulb

Everyone in this room has been in a band with everyone else in this room. It's like a family reunion where nobody's related and nobody's speaking.

M., back room

2:20 AM

Two people from the flyer. One recognized the flyer. Neither recognized the name.

Bar tab with two names, one crossed out

The tab. Two names. One crossed out. We don't know why.

3:45 AM

Walked north. Juno appeared on Rivington from nowhere, as they do, and walked with us for six blocks without saying anything, and then said "okay" and turned left.

Pocket contents emptied on a table
Everything in our pockets at 4:30. Matchbook, flyer, tab, a key that isn't ours.
Notebook page, water damaged

The notebook got rained on. About half survives.

5:06 AM

Avenue A. The blue comes up. A man on a delivery bike says "good morning" like it's a dare.
