Shot over the course of a year (beginning and ending on Halloween), OCTOBER COUNTRY is a vérité-style documentary that follows members of the Mosher family, a working-class family in upstate New York as they reconcile with the hardships of their daily life that includes unplanned pregnancy, sibling estrangement, poverty, emotional despondency and war trauma. October Country examines and provides insight into the fraught intergenerational cycles that can pervade in blue collar households.

Beginning as a photo project, Donal Mosher (one half of the directing team that also includes Michael Palmieri) sought to “…interpret and make visible the place and people I came from,” an exercise that results in a distinctly personal and otherworldly investigation into memory, ghosts, and into the houses, neighborhoods, and families that retain long-past parts of ourselves well after we’ve left.
